On Saturday, June 10th, 2017, learn from 3 skilled community organizers! As part of Retake’s Community Conversations, we are being offered an incredible opportunity to learn skills, language, and re-framing of our messaging so that we can actively engage in an inspiring and rewarding campaign that brings both sides of our city together on a path to equity for ALL in Santa Fe on.
Chainbreaker’s Tomás Rivera will introduce us to an unfolding campaign, designed by a number of organizations in the city: Equity in Santa Fe.
He will be followed by Mark Diaz Truman, a community organizer from ABQ, trained by Marshall Ganz (principal strategist for César Chávez for 16 yrs and then for 2008 Obama campaign) who will introduce the principles of effective community organizing, provide training in active listening and the use of effective communication skills designed to engage and form connection with your audience/listener.
After Mark, Katharine Clark who studied under George Lakoff will train us in the use of moral language and how to re-frame issues so our messages can be heard by people who may not share our perspective.
This training will provide tools for all forms of community activism and political conversation, not just in this initiative but in conversations with friends and family in 2018, 2020, and beyond.
