NewMexicoWomen.Org Becomes Independent as New Mexico’s Only Statewide Women’s Fund
Santa Fe, NM – After five years as a program of New Mexico Community Foundation (NMCF), at the end of October 2018, NewMexicoWomen.Org (NMW.O) became an independent organization. NMW.O is the only statewide women’s fund dedicated to gender equity. As attacks on women’s rights increase, working to support the health and well-being of women and girls is more critical than ever. NMW.O remains committed to supporting organizations and groups working on gender justice and equity for women and girls of color and those in rural and low income communities across the state of New Mexico.
This move to independence follows a trajectory similar to many women’s funds across the country that incubate within community foundations before launching. It was the vision of the founding members of NMW.O that one day the program would become an independent organization. Sarah Ghiorse, Executive Director of NMW.O, shares that: “NMW.O is so grateful to NMCF for our partnership, which has enabled us to grow and expand our impact in New Mexico. An independent women’s fund for New Mexico represents a statement of our values for gender equity and a commitment to investing in women, girls, and gender justice over the long-term.”
NMW.O’s new location is at 1807 2nd Street, Suite 76, Santa Fe, NM, 87505. However, in keeping with the organization’s focus, NMW.O’s commitment remains statewide. NMW.O will be celebrating its 5th year anniversary on March 6, 2018. The celebration will also honor International Women’s Day and feature Maria Hinojosa, Anchor and Executive Producer of Latino USA, as the keynote speaker. Stay tuned in 2018 for more information.
NewMexicoWomen.Org (NMW.O), is the only fund and program of its kind in the state that advances opportunities for women and girls statewide so that they can lead self-sufficient, healthy, and empowered lives. NMW.O works to fulfill its mission via a three-pronged strategy to educate, lead, and invest. We educate through research and communications, seeking to bring public attention to gender issues with a goal of influencing policy. We lead through facilitating alliances among non-profits, funders and beyond in order to foster collaboration and build capacity. Finally, we increase philanthropic investments in programs focused on gender justice and serving women and girls of color and those in rural, low income communities statewide through our strategic grant-making and donor education efforts.
